Cooperation exchange in the field of Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) - REDD+

A meeting to discuss cooperation between Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF) and agencies of Japan in the field of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) – REDD+ on 28 February 2017. This is an initiative of the Japanese government to achieve emission reduction and sustainable development in the host countries by Japan’s advanced low-carbon technologies and emission reduction activities

Attending the meeting, together with the attendance of Mr. Kokasu Onaka - Deputy Director of REDD+, International Forestry Cooperation Office (MAFF); Dr. Makino Yamada Yamanoshita- Researcher of  Institute for Global Environmental Strategies; Mr. Shingo Kamiyama - Expert of forest policy- Sustainable Natural Resource Management Project (JICA SNRM Project). In the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF) side, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Doi – Vice President of VNUF and Heads of International Cooperation Division, Forestry Faculty, Forest Resources and Environment Management Faculty.

At the meeting, representatives  of Japan agencies presented the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) – REDD+ between the Japanese government and the partner countries in the region, update on the current status of developing the JCM-REDD+ implementation guideline. The two sides discussed on cooperation opportunities in  consultanting to approve the rules and guideline of JCM credits with the participation of the Vietnam National University of Forestry as well as sharing experiences in the process of developing and implementing REDD+ pilot activities  at the local where VNUF directly involveed.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed on cooperation and detail exchange to implementation plan of the cooperation program in the near future.
