Workshop on Performance Evaluation of the Program: "Integrating REDD + knowledge into master programs” in 2016 and planning for 2017.

On April 5 2016, the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF) organized the Workshop on Performance Evaluation of the Program "Integrating REDD + knowledge into the master programs” in 2016 and developing the 2017 plan.

Attending the workshop, there were Prof. Tran Van Chu – VNUF President, Assoc.Prof. Bui The Doi – VNUF Vice President, Mr. Vu Xuan Thon - Head of the Management Board for Forestry Projects, Director of UN-REDD Vietnam Program II, Ms. Mihaela Secrieru and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong – Specialists of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Mr. Vu Thai Truong and experts from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); Head of the units of VNUF including International Cooperation Department, Postgraduate Training Department, Faculty of Silviculture, Faculty of Forest Resources and Environment Management and the lecturers who involved in the training.

The program "Integrating REDD + knowledge into the Master programs at the Vietnam National University of Forestry" was implemented within the framework of the activities of the UN-REDD Program in Vietnam. After one year of implementation, the university has trained for more than 10 lecturers on REDD+, organized two pilot training courses for 45 students of two master classes in Forestry and Forest resource management, and organized an international workshop to raise awareness about REDD + as well as share experiences in REDD + teaching at higher education institutions. The course contents were developed from the twelve topics of the REDD + Academy and supplemented with the theme of Provincial REDD + Action Plan(PRAP) and Site REDD + Action Plan (SiRAP) to help the students learn how to build and implement REDD + at the local level.

At the meeting, Mr. Vu Xuan Thon appreciated the efforts of the VNUF's experts and lecturers in developing and integrating the REDD + knowledge into the master's programs on Forestry and Forest Resources Management majors. In order for the program to be more effective, experts from all participating agencies and from VNUF should coordinate, develop and share the program contents more and more to disseminate REDD + knowledge to local managers and students.

On behalf of VNUF, Assoc.Prof. Bui The Doi thanked the leaders of the Management Board for Forestry Projects and the experts of the UN-REDD Vietnam Program Phase II, the UNEP and UNDP for the strong support of the program's implementation. The VNUF would like to continue the collaboration and receive the advices of experts of the organizations in developing the training and research of the university, especially in the program "Integrating REDD + knowledge into the Master programs at the Vietnam National University of Forestry".
