“Climate Change Subject” – An useful course for lecturers

From 10-11 August 2017, the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF) in collaboration with the Vietnam Forests and Deltas Program (VFD) took place the Training Course on Climate Change Subject for lecturers of the university.

Attending the course, there were Assoc.Prof. Bui The Doi (VNUF Vice President), Mr. Brian Bean (Co-Director of VFD), Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha (VFD expert), course's trainers and more than 30 trainees who are lecturers of VNUF.

The objective of the training course is to provide the basic knowledge about the global climate system and the status of climate change; Causes of climate change; Impact on natural system and human; and climate change adaptations. These knowledge could help trainees to analyze and address the number of issues in mitigation and adaptation to climate change in Vietnam.

Delivering a speech at the training course, Mr. Brian Bean emphasized the importance of the course to raise awareness of community in order to response to climate change. The training will be an opportunity for faculty members to enhance knowledge and skills in training and research about Climate change. The Director highly appreciated the cooperation between the two parties in developing and applying the Climate change subject  in the training curriculum of VNUF and other higher education institutions in the near future.

The contents were presented in the course includes: Background in climate science and climate change; Manifestation of climate change; Causes of climate change; Introduce the climate change model; Overview of the climate change impacts; The impact of climate change on nature; The impact of climate change on human; Responding to climate change; Communication on climate change ..  Participatory teaching methods with group activities and discussions sections which were integrated in the training received the active participation of trainees.

At the closing ceremony, Assoc.Prof. Bui The Doi thanked to the VFD for the special contribution to improve training curriculum and enhance the capacity of faculty members. He expected that the knowledge and skills achieved though the couse will help the VNUF lecturers to impove the training quality.
