A meeting with international experts on the Master's program in International Forestry at VNUF

On the afternoon of 25 Sept. 2017, the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF) held a meeting with foreign experts to discuss about the Master's program in International Forestry taught at the University

Attending and presiding over the meeting were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Doi – VNUF Vice President; Prof. Jurgen Pretzsch - Director, Institute of International Forestry, Technical University of Dresden, Germany; with the attendance of Dr. Paul Winkler - University of Gottingen, Germany; Dr. Kaisone Phengsopha - Head of Postgraduate Training Department, National University of Laos (NUOL); Leadership of the Graduate Training Department, International Cooperation Division, Faculty of Forestry and lecturers from VNUF who participated in the program.

Under the support and cooperation of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and two German universities (University of Gottingen –UGOE and Technical University of Dresden - TUD), the International Master's Program in Forestry has been implemented at the VNUF since 2016, for the first cohort with 14 trainees from six Asian countries (Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan and Vietnam). The program is taught in English and by a team of professors and experts from VNUF, Germany and Laos. The master students have been regularly invited to international seminars, academic events conducted by experts from the United States, Australia, Japan, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Taiwan etc,.

At the meeting, on behalf of VNUF, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui The Doi has reported results of nearly one year of implementing the first cohort of the International Master program in forestry. The international experts and lecturers of the University also had very exciting discussion during the meeting about the advantages, challenges, solutions and directions in the coming time, focusing on how to attreact the advanced lecturers of Vietnam and from abroad; to arrange and adjust the curriculum to suit the regional and world forestry context; to assign clearly tasks to units in the management and operation of the program; to raise solutions for seeking financial supports and scholarships ... to attract more international students to study in this program.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Doi – VNUF Vice President highly appreciated the achievements of the past time and the Vice President would like to thank the experts and lecturers for their contributions to the International Master's Program in Forestry. He also hopes that VNUF continue to receive the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), experts, lecturers in the deployment of this International Master program, contributing to improve the quality of training and the position of the VNUF.
